RS Electric Boats is proud to support The Ocean Race stopover in Portsmouth this weekend by providing an RS Electric Pulse 63 to assist with on-water operations. The all-electric RIB will be used throughout the event for yacht manoeuvring, berthing logistics, and general organisational duties – all in line with The Ocean Race’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in marine technology.
This marks the second time RS Electric Boats has partnered with The Ocean Race, previously supporting in June 2023 during The Hague stopover. Known for its commitment to protecting our planet, The Ocean Race is hosting a major stopover at the Portsmouth Race Village from 15th – 17th August, where visitors can enjoy a weekend of elite ocean racing, education and environmental action.
The Ocean Race is one of the most prestigious and environmentally driven sailing events in the world and RS Electric Boats are honoured to be invited to support. Alex Newton-Southon, Managing Director of RS Electric Boats, commented: “This is the second time RS Electric Boats has supported The Ocean Race, and it was great to be approached to contribute. As a local business with global values rooted in innovation, sustainability and zero-emissions marine technology, this partnership perfectly reflects our mission to help create a cleaner future for boating and ocean racing.”
The RS Pulse 63 is the world’s first 100% electric RIB designed specifically for commercial and professional use. Combining cutting-edge marine tech and sustainable boating design, it delivers powerful, efficient and silent performance – all without producing any emissions. Built to meet the demands of professionals working on and around the water, the RS Pulse 63 features a robust hull, sleek hydrodynamic form, and a high-capacity battery system offering hours of clean, quiet operation.
This RS Pulse 63 model is designed to Workboat 3 coding standards. Built for professional, commercial use, it meets the rigorous reliability, robustness, and safety requirements expected by harbour masters and other marine operators. This coding certification ensures the RIB is fully compliant with regulatory demands, making it an ideal choice for diverse commercial marine applications – from passenger transfers to harbour support services.
During the Portsmouth event, the RS Pulse 63 will play a critical role in supporting sustainable event management, including:
- Assisting with the manoeuvring and parking of yachts as they arrive at their berths.
- Navigating harbour areas while recording water depth measurements using its integrated transducer sensor, ensuring there is adequate clearance for the deep keels of The Ocean Race yachts – and helping prevent any risk of grounding.
This support for The Ocean Race follows our recent contribution to another major event in the sailing calendar – SailGP’s July event, the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth. The RS Electric Pulse 63 played an essential role in on-water operations, helping the SailGP team reduce their carbon footprint and deliver a cleaner, more sustainable race weekend.
These back-to-back appearances reinforce RS Electric Boats’ commitment to partnering with world-leading sailing events that prioritise innovation.
